Hello,

As programmer the Text capture feature was very, very useful for me. Just right now trying the latest version of Snagit I see that text capture feature has been removed!. Why?.

Somewhere it says it was too hard to maintain.

(I use this frequently and found this one of the very useful features of Snagit. )

This is huge dissappointment.  I have been a loyal customer of Snagit for 20 years.  Text capture is extremely important to me in my business.  I am forced to digress to V11 (which eliminated Library folder view, also creating a hardship for me)

Hello there,
You can download an older version that supports folders here.

I mentioned this in another thread but since there seems to be a lot of discussion about it:

I've found the best alternative to this is to use Nir Sofer's SysExporter.

From his own description: "SysExporter utility allows you to grab the data stored in standard list-views, tree-views, list boxes, combo boxes, text-boxes, and WebBrowser/HTML controls from almost any application running on your system, and export it to text, HTML or XML file."

The website is:

Aahh - It didn't work on the Office 365 Admin web page I wanted to use it on. Oh well.

Thanks for that, Norm. I like NirSoft stuff, even if it does operate closer to the bits--or maybe that's why I like it.

Text Capture gone in version 12 - A STEP BACKWARDS!.

I am so dissapointed with Techsmith decision to remove text capture from version 12.  I really cannot believe they actually did it.  Is Techsmith loosing contact with their end users?

New releases are made to enhance products.  Techsmith crippled SnagIt in version 12.  Please I urge you... GIVE US BACK TEXT CAPTURE!!!

"The code was difficult to support",
so we ditched it!  What kind of mentality is this?  Whoever is making these decisions should be FIRED!!!

Pls also see:
" Alternate to SnagIt 12 missing text capture "
at:

as an alternative you may wish to:

- try/buy (usd.9.95) Abbyy Screenshot Reader (it does not keep layout, like fonts, linespaces, but does capture things like warning-popups)

or
- revert to 11.3 or 11.4 (asking or a refund)

That's exactly why I work for myself now! People making discussions that have no clue. Then wonder why the company went out of business!

Text Capture?.

I have been using Snagit in my business for many years and recently upgraded to v 12. Text Capture is one of my most used and important functions and I am extremely disappointed to see that it has been removed from the program. As a result I have just re-installed v 11.4.3 in order to have access to Text Capture. Please bring it back.

However, I do like the new design and interface of v 12, including the darker color scheme - well done!

I think that the more the better for delivering bad news to TechSmith that they cannot simply remove features without announcing what will be missing. Obviously THEY knew they would take it away, but they did not think to let us know. So I have wasted an hour online looking at instructions for using a feature that I subsequently could not find in my current version.

THIS *WILL* BE THE LAST TIME I PURCHASE ANY UPGRADE TO THIS APPLICATION WITHOUT A FULL DISCLOSURE OF ALL FEATURES REMOVED.

I recommend all customers subscribe to this credo, and alert the product department at SnagIt that they feel the same way as I do.

I can't believe you guys took out text capture from snagit 12.

I am a developer and have been using your product since the 90's. I use snagit to capture error messages from windows in a text format. The error messages sometime have sql queries that are failing. Some of these queries can be huge. I used the text capture to capture the queries and run them in the database to find the problem. Now that you've removed text capture I will have to find another tool that has text capture.

I am in the same boat as you.  I process data and work with many types of files/formats.  Text capture is integral to my job.  I am not a social media amateur looking for cute smartphone apps.  I relied on Snagit for 15 years to provide the tools.  I am now a TechSmith ex-loyalist.
