I've tried downloading and installing Camtasia 2019, 2, and 3 for Mac, and none of them will open my .camproj or .trec files from 2017. Is this the file extension for a Windows version of Camtasia? Any ideas for what to try next?

Theres something wrong, Camtasia 2019 can open all of those file extensions.

Plus, upgrade a .camproj file.
Which 2018 and older versions of Camtasia could not.

I would attempt a fresh download of Camtasia 2019. Uninstall the old version and install the fresh download.
If that doesn't work, you probably need tech support. That's unusual and not normal.

A .camproj file is Windows only file format used by Camtasia 8 and earlier.  Those files are not supported by any Mac version of Camtasia.

You should be able to import .trec files into any recent Mac version of Camtasia.  What happens when you try to import one of those files?

it seems the project file is a Windows Camtasia Studio 8 [or earlier?] file

perhaps try this ...

Install Camtasia 9; it should be able to open the camproj file

Download Older Versions

doing so should allow you to convert the project to tscproj file, which is used by the more recent versions

zip the project; import the zip into the Mac version

note: you might need to open the Camtasia 9 project in Camtasia 2018, then in 2019 ??

but I believe a 2019 Windows zip can be opened in Man version 3

Camtasia 2019 can convert .camproj's
Its a great new feature TechSmith has been silent about.

It's not even listed as a new feature. But I've converted projects from Camtasia 7,8,9, and 2018. All without a hitch.
I don't have many archived, or tested many. However, I can confirm 100% success rate.
