Why am I getting "Failed to load main frame" error and how do I fix

Background.  I have been a steady user of Snagit for years, going back to Snagit 7.  I upgraded to 12.2 and it worked.  I had some issues with the Editor' background colors but it worked.

I am running Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Windows  Professional 7 64 bit SP1.
It worked, then it stopped working.  Now when I do a screen capture and it loads the capture into the Editor or I launch the Editor I get the following error:

"Failed to load main frame"

in a very lovely message window with Snagit Editor

I have been working with support for over two weeks no results.

I am reaching to my peers for assistance. in any and all forms including recommending an alternative screen capture.  I am willing to pay for the software.  This state of affairs is very sad since I recommenced Camtasia to do video presentations for my division.

Do you need anymore information.  I did not add or change my PC in any way.

Please I need help.  Thanks.

This is a very unusual error.  Not much shows up in an internet search.  Perhaps if you tell us what you have done so far with support we might think up of something.  But those guys are good if they are stumped then probably the only real thing we might offer is to suggest that you return to a clean backup image of your machine to a time before this error started.

I have sent logs,
re-installed C++ all versions .

Locate SnagitEditor.exe there and right click on it and choose Properties > Compatibility tab and check the box at the bottom to Run this program as administrator.  Did the same for Snagit32.exe.

set DPI is to to 100 form 125

in Registers  went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt and delete the "SnagIt" folder.

did full Re-install

issued "sfc /scannow" command.

a ran process Monitor and sent logs

Support gave me all of these tasks; none of them wroked.   Not sure roll back will work  I may not be allow to that on this machine.

Thanks, that would have been my approach as well.

I know you said nothing happened to your PC but something did but obviously without your knowledge.  I doubt it's Snagit's fault.  Probably some update that is killing the C++ code.  Tracking it down is going to be difficult.  They will have to go through the Process Monitor logs and see if they can find the interaction if at all.  This is going to be very complex.

There are some computer problems that the best solution is to roll back to a fresh known working image just because the time involved in resolving them is incredibly demanding and particularly so when it's being done remotely.  I'm afraid you hit one of them.  If I were you I would seek in house help in returning the machine to a working state and forget about actually fixing what is wrong.  It will be easier in the long run.

Good luck with it.  I can't help.

This worked for me - 'Locate SnagitEditor.exe c:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit11\SnagitEditor.exe then right click on it and choose Properties > Compatibility tab and check the box at the bottom to Run this program as administrator.

I'm getting the same error and the "Run this program as administrator" did not work for me.  I even upgraded to v12 from 11 thinking that might do the trick.  It did not.

Hi everyone,

We found that this error can be caused by third party tools and utilities like registry cleaners breaking a specific registry key for Windows, and resulting in this error. Please try the steps in this article if you are getting this error: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/205317917
