In order to provide timely, relevant information we are experimenting with in-product messaging.  Our goal is to share valuable free content that helps our customers derive more value from the product without pestering them on a regular basis. We plan to use this very sparingly but if you would like to turn this off you can do so in your preferences menu under “Send anonymous usage data” (see links below on how to find that) .

A quick update on this topic...we spent some time today with the TechSmith user experience team, brainstorming ideas for how best to deliver timely, relevant, even tailored information in a fashion that feels very integrated into the product experience...rather than feeling like an intrusion on the experience. I'm confident that the next iteration will be an improvement over what we have now. If you have examples to share about how other applications you use are doing this well (or poorly), please share them with us.

What's driving this? We hear from many users that they use only a fraction of the power of Snagit...which is a missed opportunity. That means the customer is missing out on potential benefits to their daily productivity and their desired business outcomes. And TechSmith spends time building or improving features that a fraction of users discover or use regularly. So we believe it's important to offer many (free) opportunities for customers to discover new use cases, become more advanced in their use, and extract more of the value they paid for in Snagit. Of course, that benefits TechSmith, as well, because daily, proficient users have a much more compelling story to tell about the product and more reasons to stay on the latest version.

So we're always looking for the best ways to reach people at the right moment to assist them in developing their skills not only at using the product but at creating remarkable content in less time. It's helpful to hear when we've strayed off course from that goal and it's helpful to know when we've hit it spot on...so please keep the feedback coming.
