I am extremely frustrated with SnagIt.  Why can you only capture images in rectangles or squares?  Why can't you select to capture in circles or any other shape?

Perhaps because every computer image that has ever existed is rectangular?

Note that while Joe pointed you to a way to save an image that appears to be an odd shape, it's still basically rectangular. It's just that the pixels surrounding the odd area are rendered transparent.

You could create a preset that would allow you to capture in "freehand".

See if this video helps any.

Hi Teri,
There is a way to save images in any shape you want but it must be done through the editor.
The following images are from SnagIt 13 but the techniques is the same for older versions.

First, capture a screen shot that contains everything you want to capture.

Then use one of the selection tools to mark out the portion of the image you want to save. In The following image I used the Polygon selection tool. There are other tools selectable from the top right corner of the editor.
Once you've made a selection, right click it and chose Copy. That will copy it to the clipboard.
See Image Below, Click to Enlarge

Go into the file menu and select File, New,New from clipboard.

The image will be reproduced.

To make the background transparent. Go to Image, Canvas Color and change the color to transparent.

Regards,Joe
