Hey ews,

If you don't have Windows 10, all versions of windows have a voice recorder. Older versions require different steps to set them up correctly.

If you want to record just audio use Windows free "Voice Recorder"

It records in Stereo. Just type Voice Recorder into the start menu.

You may need to go into settings and set the Microphone to "Let apps use my Microphone"

The recorder is much better these days. You can even edit out segments if you want to.It's a rudimentary editor, but it's new.
This you tube video I found seems to the features.I think it's worth watching.

... and if that isn't good enough try Audacity - also free - and multi-platform

Don't get me wrong,  Audacity's a great program. Especially for free.

However it's overkill for basic audio recordings and a little complex for a novice to grapple with.

I definitely recommend Audacity:  Audacity(R) is a free, open source (cross-platform) digital audio editor, recorder, and mixer. It is a sophisticated software application - https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.2.1.exe
HitFilm Express (free version) will split out the audio also.  OBS (also free) will capture audio and video.
