Why does the app default to a red arrow in manager?

It used to be that I could select an area first thing once I opened a screen grab in the manager. Now I get some completely useless red arrow. How can I change it back to selecting an area? If one can't then you should really lose the arrow folks, it's not as desirable as an area selector.

Click off the image first. It remembers the last tool. (You can of course pick the tool you want to use)

Thanks for the obvious, Rick. Yes, I can pick the tool I want each time, but I'd like it to default to the Selection tool. No, it doesn't default to the last tool used, otherwise, it would default to Selection or Crop. It keeps defaulting to the stupid red arrow. If you know how to set the Selection tool as the default, please let me know. Otherwise, if this isn't possible, could I please suggest it as an feature option for future releases? When I'm in a crunch and trying to get something done quickly, it's just a waste of my time to have to select the tool I want, when it's NEVER, EVER the red arrow.

I did not mean to sound condescending at all. I don't have exactly your issue with the red arrow, but I do see the issue. There is no way that I know of to set a default tool between sessions. The work around is to click off the capture (on the background) or just select a tool
I am not pretending that this solves the issue. You might open a support ticket and see what they have to say but I think you may have to adjust your work flow to clicking the background first to unselect any tool such as the arrow.
Yes it is a pain in the ass
Ywas we are with you on getting it fixed, but if it always goes to the selection tool ... someone is going to complain

I'm sorry for the frustrations this caused. We addressed this as soon as we could after the release of 13.0.0. I listened to your voicemail just now. Like you've already heard, the latest version of Snagit 13 doesn't have this issue. But that doesn't really help you due to your company's software update policy.

That said, I did have one other option you could consider. In your message, you spoke of your desire for having either the selection tool or the crop tool as your default.

If your goal is to select a portion of your capture, you can still use the crop squares to crop an image without using the crop tool. And these are available regardless of which tool you are on.

The forum isn't allowing me to embed an image or GIF at the moment. So please follow this link: https://www.screencast.com/t/LPPqkJIv for a quick demo.
