Why is capturing a 'DropDown Menu'so difficult? this forum is full of suggestions on how to do it but, nothing seems to work. In much older versions there was a simple shortcut. Has anybody found a solution that works in the latest version (window 2019) please?

Hi Ronnie;

I have found that the best way to capture dropdown menus is via a capture hotkey for your preferred capture type (Image or Video). When you click on a dropdown menu, simply pressing the capture hotkey should keep the menu active and allow you to take a capture. Note that there are some menus/applications that may still resist this type of capture; in those cases I simply start a Snagit recording, capture it as a video, then save the intended frame as a PNG file.

What struggles are you running into with using a hotkey, if you've tried that step?

Hi Ronnie!

If you open the Snagit capture application, beneath the red Capture button it will likely say "Add Hotkey" and if you click there you can set your desired global capture hotkey. You can see how it is done here.
You can also create custom profiles that each have their own capture hotkeys as seen in this tutorial.

Am still confused!
I can see that the video is showing 'Print Screen' being dragged to the add hot key box but can't see how to to do that. Might be easier to just download an older version of snagit that did have a menu shortcut to capture a dropdown!

Nothing is being dragged to the hotkey box.

You click in the hotkey box and then type your desired hotkey.

So in the video he just hit the print screen key on his keyboard.

You can also add  a hotkey to a existing preset or to a new preset in your presets list.

Click on the text "Add Hotkey" and type your hotkey.
