Why does Camtasia Studio 7 produce a black screen when I try to record in Windows 7?

Hello, I've been trying to record my desktop using Camtasia 7's recorder, but when I get to the preview, all that shows is a black screen. Audio records fine. I'm using version 7.0.0, I've tried updating and the problem still persists.

For those of you having this problem this might be a solution or not. I found this on the TechSmith site doing a search. Let us know. If not maybe try contacting TechSmith Support or give a little more information here of what you are recording and how you are producing. Basically the steps you have taken and what OS, etc. you are using. The more information the more it helps others and TechSmith to help resolve the problem(s). I hope this helps. The link is below:

what version of CS [Recorder] are you using?

try this ...

in Recorder's tools|options|program tab, put a check in hide preview after recording is stopped, in the do this to my recording dropdown, select add to timeline

does that help?

Can you provide more information on what you are recording and your OS and which version of Camtasia Studio you are using and maybe the problem can be fixed that you are having or some users might have some suggestions for you to try to get it fixed.

Are you getting any error mess sages or can you describe what is happening and the steps you are taking when this happens. Is this a constant thing or did it just start happening to you after an upgrade or system change of some kind? The more information the better it is to give me and other users and idea of what is going on and TechSmith too.

Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

I have the same problem. Using Camtasia 8.5.2 och a fully updated Windows 8.1. Start the recording without sound and webcam. Tried both full screen and Custom dimensions. When I hit stop the preview is shown and i see a capture of the starting picture but as soon as i start playing it it turns black. The mouse arrow is viable and moving though. What to do? Have a project due on Friday?

what dimensions did you capture at?

after saving the capture, can you put it on timeline; does it then look OK?

I'm having this issue as well, but it is with all screen recorders, not just Camtasia.  (Jing, for example)  They used to all work well.
