Will Camtasia 9 project files open in Camtasia 2020?

Hi everyone

In my team we're running Camtasia 9 across the board, and are holding out until Camtasia 2020 is released to upgrade (hopefully within a few months!?).

To cut straight to it - is anyone able to confirm if Camtasia 9 project files will open in Camtasia 2020?

I know that they will open in 2019 but I'm concerned that the distance between 9 > 2020 means there's a chance they won't be compatible.

An idea I had, as a workaround, would be to convert all the files to Camtasia 2019 (which I assume would open in 2020 without issue), then open these up in Camtasia 2020 once we get hold of it.

I'm keen to avoid spending so much time doing this if we can be sure that compatibility won't be a problem.

Thanks so much in advance

Matt

Well,  If you're a beta tester you must sign a nondisclosure agreement to download and use it.What version 2020 can or cannot do, is typically not revealed until its released.

I can tell you this.
Heres what changed with version 2019.
Projects created in Camtasia 8 , 9 and 2018.  Can be opened and upgraded in one step by version 2019.

Before this, it was a multi-step process.
A Cam 8 project would have to be loaded into Camtasia 9 and upgraded. That version could be upgraded in Camtasia 2018.
Bottom line......you had to upgrade projects from one version to the next to get there. It was quite a pain in the rear to be honest.

If you Cam 7 or older project versions. They have to be upgraded using Camtasia 8 first. Before upgrading them to/in 2019.
Given these facts, I would think 2020 could open a version 9 project seemlessly. But I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

When Camtasia 2020 is released, you could download the free trial and test for this.Contact tech support and ask them why it doesn't. See if its a bug or expected behaviour.

Thanks for your analysis and summing up, Joe! Sounds hopeful but not for certain.

I'll eagerly await the arrival of version 2020 - downloading the trial first is a wise suggestion.
