I've recently started seeing "nag messages" from Microsoft announcing that Windows 10 will be available soon. And according to the messages, it will be a free upgrade for me. I'm inclined to allow it to proceed, but I'm curious about SnagIt and Camtasia as far as the Windows 10 goes. I did find an earlier thread asking about it as well as seeing a thread from TechSmith stating the assorted things they have discovered in trials. But it seemed the thread was a bit long in the tooth, so I'm curious about the later releases of Windows 10 and how the products are faring with it.
Cheers... Rick :)

Be patient, don't upgrade yourself into a new operating system just because it's available.
Software programs haven't been tested in Windows 10 by many people yet. Bugs will be reported and need correcting.
Also, I hear that windows media player and some other features are going away.http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-will-remove-some-features-and-apps-upgrading-windows-7-and-...
If you want to be a Ginny Pig.
Good luck with that, I'll pass.
Regards, Joe
Also, if you are a home version user, I've read that windows 10 will run updates automatically and you no control over them at all. The Pro and Professional versions won't do this.
But be careful, Companies are getting very bold with what they allow themselves to do with Your Computers Functionality. The slope keeps getting slipperier.

Agreed with the others Rick. Given the new way that MS made the Windows 8.1 upgrade available (distributed and downloaded from Windows store), I'd be VERY wary of this. Specifically these two issues: 1) If you did discover a serious compatibility issue there is no way to "rollback" the upgrade. 2) Because of the way it was installed, it didn't carry over significant data & settings as one would expect, so one must be prepared to configure settings that one didn't have to think about in the past.
On the other hand they may have discontinued that arrangement as so many people were unhappy with it. Wait, who am I kidding? This is Microsoft, put your crash helmet on and hold your breath. :)

Well ...
In the latest Windows 10 Insider Preview it only has the Reset entry however, options under it allow you to keep your files or to remove all files and reinstall Windows. Since logging in with your Microsoft account syncs settings and apps there is no longer a need for those to be saved during the process. This option gives you an opportunity to get a fresh start with Windows 10 - same benefits of what we refer to as a clean install.
Since this creates a Windows.old folder, you CAN roll-back.

I use Audacity as a great free replacement to SoundForge - works great on Windows XP ... 10 - try it - you may like it.

My understanding is that this is a OS upgrade so everything you installed is retained. There are some features, namely media center, that are being removed. So some things will be different but overall when you update almost everything should work as before.
If you install the OS as new, rather than as an update, then it will be brand new as it came out of MS. None of your software will be there. A user can do this if they download the ISO and install that as a brand new operating system.
No matter which way you go it's always a good idea to have a good image backup so you can restore it should something fail in the update process. It shouldn't happen but, you know, this is a computer and you know what can happen.
TS products likely work but as you know they don't officially support Win 10 yet. It'll probably take a good six months for all this stuff, and not just TS, to work itself out. Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait since you have a year to get that free update.

I plan on taking my Dell Laptop back to the original factory when I bought it and just install everything again as I got a newer router that will allow me to setup my home network the way I want with all my devices, printers, Satellite Receiver, Blu-Ray DVD Player and in the near future a Smart WiFi TV. Thanks for the information again Manny and keep in touch.

On a more serious note, my OS is Windows 7 professional. The notification process seems to imply that I'll be able to download and save the upgrade for a later time when I'm actually ready. Microsoft seems to operate in a very similar way to Adobe. By that, I mean that it seems every OTHER version is "upgrade worthy". Adobe loves to introduce a feature that looks promising but falls short of being actually useful. Then when the next version appears, it actually BECOMES useful. ;)
So I'm wondering if Windows 10 will be that "useful" os that Windows 7 users will actually WANT.
Cheers... Rick :)
