When I tried to install Camtasia 9.0.5 on a newly formatted computer, it said it needs Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit installed. Searching for this, I only came to page after page of "downloads" but every one I clicked only lead to more pages. Is there no actual simple #$%% download link?  I was trying to stick to trustworthy sites like Microsoft.com and cnet download etc. and even on those I found lots of floating "download" links but I can't be sure those are 1) what I want, and 2) safe to download.  Any help with this please?

The best way to get it is through Windows updates.

This page explans why as you may need other updates first.

If thats not how you roll,  then you can find the download here

I agree with Dubie, you're playing with fire if you decide to install that update manually. Microsoft highly recommends not doing that at all.Plus, backing up all your data if you do because it's a major update that can break your system if it's done wrong.
Here's a you tube video that shows you how to check for updates. Not my video and I didn't watch it to closely but it seems to show you what you need to know.
