I ran the new version of windows 8 release preview (5/31/2012) and installed the latest snagit version (trial downloaded). It ran once, then crashed. I assume it is easy for your to repro. if not, please contact me at my web: http://peterkellner.net/contact

Hi Pkellner99,

Thanks for this feedback. We are working on a Windows-8-compatible Snagit. However, there is not yet a release date.

Sorry for the vague answer, but stay tuned,
Glenn

Darn! I'm writing a book on Windows 8 and was hoping to use SnagIt for my screen shots. As you know, the program closes when you try to save a capture.

Hope it will be out soon! Thanks.

Hi Barbara,

Until we get a Windows-8-compatible version out the door, my recommendation would be to run a virtualized version of Windows 8 and then you'd be able to use Snagit to capture the screenshots of Windows 8 from your native operating system.

Holy cow. Windows 8 has now been out in CP and RC for MONTHS, and still nothing? And now we have a Windows 8 RTM out for a week, and we're seeing nothing. Please get this fixed. SnagIt is a great tool, but if I can't use it in my production OS, I'm going to frustrated and looking elsewhere.

Ok, it's time. The MSDN version is released and it's time to support Windows 8.

I also need a snagit - like utility for work. I am on a 5yo rapidly dying PC and will be forced to upgrade as soon as new machines are released. Will SnagIt be available for Win8 or should I be looking elsewhere for image capture?

This morning we released an update to Snagit. Snagit 11.1 is now available as a free upgrade. To get the update go to Help > Check for Upgrade.

This latest version of Snagit runs on the new Windows 8 operating system. Snagit will operate on touch-screens, but has not been optimized for Windows 8 touch-screen gestures. Applications and utilities within the Start screen lose focus when you click away or move the cursor on the screen. To improve users’ experience, we recommend setting up and using hotkeys.

To learn how to use Snagit’s hotkeys to capture Windows 8 new interface applications, view the tutorial here:

With the release of Windows 8 today we have added a new tutorial to help you capture images and video of the startup interface. To capture the startup interface you will need to use hotkeys. You can find the new tutorial here:

Snag It 11.1 is crashing for me upon startup with Windows 8 retail version. I just installed the WIndows 8 yesterday, uninstalled Snag-It 9 today (since it wasn't working), and reinstalled snagit 11.1 (unfortunately it also isn't working).

When SnagIt tries to start, it says "SnagIt has stopped working". A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". This happens about 33% through a progress bar that says "Communicating with TechSmith Server".

Ignore my response, the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 caused a lot of problems with my PC. I had to do a fresh windows 8 install and then SnagIt 11.1 worked.
