For years I have created a certain magnification effect with all sorts of screen shot programs. But it's never been done easily.
I can create the effect with Snagit but you have no idea how many steps, objects, eyeballing, and complications it takes.
I have seen other people's requests for magnify improvements that would help me create this effect. For instance, the ability to freeze the focus of the magnify tool and then move it to another area would eliminate many of the steps I do.
I would also like to be able to change the shape of the circular magnify tool from circle to ellipse. Forgive me if this is already possible. I've been using Snagit for over five years and haven't figured it out.
And I would love the lines coming out of one of the areas, and the ability to outline both the small and large versions of the focused area. Right now I'm faking it around the magnify area.
If you add these features separately it would still be a terrific help to my workflow. If you created a whole new effect that did it in one click, (Pop-up magnify?) my life would change dramatically.
Why I want this:
I also can send the Snagit file to anyone at TechSmith who might want to see all the objects I have to create and align.

Why I want this:
- It is a communication technique that students and readers understand.
- It spells out where the original item is on the page as well as read the larger version.
- It doesn't obscure the area around the original.
- It adds a dynamic action to the magnified area as if it is jumping out of the page towards the viewer.
- It could also be used for dramatic GIF animations.

UPDATE: I was able to use the grayscale effect. Not the best solution, but it at least changes the color of the background image. Thanks!
