Would like to be able to create brackets/braces for callouts in Snagit

I want to be able to group a section of a screenshot together using a bracket. This lets me call out a group of items, where the existing callout shapes only offer pointers to a single item.

I see a "workaround" post where you use a text bracket. I gave that a try, but it won't work for me because I can't get a long enough bracket unless it's such a large font size that it overwhelms the image. (If it helps, I'm try to group a series of options in a menu bar.)

This seems like a very common/basic type of callout, so I'm really surprised you don't have this. I would use it pretty often.

NOTE: Because I prefer square [ over curly { brackets, my need would be fully met by being able to turn off the border on one side of a rectangle shape.

Nice idea.  In the same wein and for the same reason it would also be good to be able to have multiple pointers from one callout for when the items you need to callout are not grouped together.  Currently you have to overlay multiple call out boxes to achieve the effect, and that only works if the box fill and frame are the same colour, otherwise you see an artifact of the underlying call out frame cutting across one of the pointers

Have you tried "Math" Stamps?

There are Red and Black ones. You need to stretch for height and compress the width.

They are vector based so they remain sharp regardless of size.

Joe, that's a good suggestion, thanks!

Do you have a way to decrease the width of the ends of the square brace? I stretched it long enough that the length is nice and thin, but the the ends are very thick. They cover parts of my diagram. The curly brace works better, though.

Actually I do,
SnagIt won't let you add your own vector graphics to stamps. But you can replace existing ones with your own creations.

It involves swapping out the stock Math brackets with modified ones.
I uploaded the replacements to media fire.https://www.mediafire.com/file/q02g1qqi9dhx2mg/SnagIt%20Math%20Brackets.zip

You need to go into the program files to replace them, l threw together a video to show you the proper procedure.

It's a reversible process,  you can get the old brackets back at a later date if you wanted to.

Thanks for the download Joe.

If I may though add a bit to your demo. You mention to get the original image(s) back to do a repair or reinstall.

May I suggest that before copying the new files and overwriting the originals that you copy the originals to a backup location/folder. Then you can just do the same process, copy the originals from the backup to the stamps folder and overwrite the new ones.

Even better. Keep them all.

Instead of overwriting the originals add the new files with a different name.
If we look at the stamps folder (Math Red) we see they are numbered.

Rename the new files (Joe's files). I renamed them 24_Thin-Red.pdf and 25_Thin-red.pdf.

Copy those to the folder and it will not overwrite the original and you can have both styles.

They should be available now in the editor.

Actually that is better to renumber them and not replace them.

Starting with SnagIt 12 I used to create my own Steps graphics. But SnagIt limits you to 4 Styles. So replacing the 4 existing ones is the only option you have.
I was hard wired to replace.

However, that kind of opens a whole new field of possibility's for Stamps.

Paul,

Have you downloaded Joe's files
https://www.mediafire.com/file/q02g1qqi9dhx2mg/SnagIt%20Math%20Brackets.zip

All you have to do is rename those and you're good to go.

If you can't use mediafire than I can of course upload them somewhere else.

If that's ok with Joe. lol

Thank you Dubie and Joe!

Just a note to an Snagit devs who are reading this thread: this doesn't completely solve my wish, and I'd still love to see this feature added!
