X & Y Coordinates - Bring back....please!

I have been using TechSmith Products for over 30 years and in the past 9 years, we have heavily used the X, Y coordinates in our setup process for our software clients.  I am still using Version 11 because that is the last version where the X,Y coordinates were displayed.  Is there any chance that is going to ever come back so I and my team of 7 can upgrade to your latest versions but still be able to use your products for this part of our process?

They brought back text capture, so there's always chance.

It's unfortunate that for the most part, when TechSmith takes away a feature. It's gone for good, and that's that. Regardless of how many people vote for it's return.
I offer you SnagIt notes as an example. 112 people voted for it's return. But were shot down anyway.

I'm voting yes for your Idea .Cross your fingers and hope for a landslide to top all landslides.

Thanks Joe!  I hear you!  I have submitted this a few times, with each release, only to have my hopes dashed :D, but I haven't tried crossing my fingers...so here goes!

I am afraid that Version 11 will always be the best release ever. I also own Versin 12 which is already on he down slide. I expect to use Version 11 forever.

GUI-wise v11 indeed was the best one ever.
Admittedly there is one new thing that has been introduced into a later version (v2018) : panoramic scroll. That is nice, definitely.

But that aside, most of us, we are getting a bit 'melancholy' thinking of the good old v11 GUI.

@Joe Morgan
The many, many votes for text capturing pushed them to indeed re-introduce text capturing (They licensed Abbyy for that purpose). Yes.. probably you need to have over a thousand votes to get something like that done.

Thanks for your feedback.

Could you elaborate on why the x,y crosshair coordinates are valuable to you and how that's a requirement for your workflow?

Thanks again,
Glenn

I make extensive use of the X-Y coordinate feature. I often reinvent screenshots whereby I reduce them by removing unwanted space and realign certain sections. When I select a section, I click on it and make a note of either the X coordinate, the Y coordinate or both. This allows me to move the selection from the source location to the destination. Often, when you try and realign a section, resize handle bars get in the way. This makes it difficult to see what is going on. This is where the X-Y coordinates are useful. Long story short, if I need to align a source and destination selection criteria, I can do it with ease by observing the appropriate X or Y coordinate. For instance, it is useful when drawing a line or an arrow selection. For instance, before I draw a horizontal line, I place my cursor at the start position and note the Y coordinate. I can now draw the line and when I get to the end point (destination), I can easily judge if the line is straight by referring to the Y coordinate. (The source and destination Y coordinate should match). I really miss the feature.  Please return the feature.  Regards, Leshec

As far as drawing lines and arrows goes. If you hold "Shift" it will constrain the drawing to vertical or horizontal.

With selections, you can move them with the arrow keys. Hold shift to move them at a slower rate.Tap the keys to move one pixel at a time.
If you resize the the selection.Make sure you resize it selecting the correct handle. If it's the top you need to remain aligned. Resize it by grabbing a bottom handle. The top won't move.

SURE!  When people buy the software we support, we customize it by grabbing their header from their company site and then create hotspots to allow them to "appear" to be using their company website and have the links still work.  We use the coordinates from the screengrab and put in our softwares back end controls to create that hot spot.  I am happy to show you, but would rather not post screenshots, etc. in this public forum. Thanks for listening.

I too would like to see XY Coordinate capture back so I can link parts of an image with a URL.  Is this ability back in Snagit 2019?  I have been submitting an inquiry about this since Snagit v13 when it was first removed.  Thanks so much!

I'm wondering if nmeyer is actually referring to something that is fundamentally different than this thread.

You actually *CAN* configure a capture to occur at X/Y coordinates. I believe what was dropped was the display one could see during the edit process.

If you configure a preset, you are able to specify coordinates as part of the preset.

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks for your reply Rick.  What I'm looking for is the ability to move across an image and select specific items with each item's respective XY coordinate.  The fixed image setting here does not allow me to identify the coordinates in edit mode.  V12 was the last version that offered the XY coordinate capture as I edit an image.

Have a great day!
