Please add the ability to use the Function keys (like F13, etc) as the screen capture hotkey on the keyboard. Currently the Function keys cannot be used on their own. Only in keyboard combinations like Control + F13 or Shift + F13. It would be very helpful and better for transitioning Windows users to have a single F13 key to perform screenshots, similar to the "Print Screen" key on the Windows version of the software.

Most Apple / PC laptop keyboards don't go beyond F12. However, some PC keyboards do (others have these keys pre-defined by a Print Screen, or other similar buttons).

But Apple's current (and previous models) of the extended / full-size keyboard have F13 through F19 as additional keys.

I can't speak for mac but on most Windows keyboards Shift + f1 thru f12 become f13 thru f24.

So yeah to use/assign F13 thru F24 you have to hold the Shift key.

I have F13 set as Snagit All-in-one hotkey. It shows it as Shift+F1 so I guess you could call it what you want.

F13 or Shift+F1

Yes, this functionality on Windows is present, but not available on the Mac version of SnagIt 2019. You can use Control or Shift + a function key, but not just a function key on the Mac.

Hence the post in the Mac section of support. :) I switched platforms at work and was disappointed that I couldn't assign a function key to replicate the Print Screen shortcut from Windows.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion! This is a little tricky on Mac since many of the function keys are bound to system events like controlling brightness and volume, but we'll see if there's something we can do.

Thanks! Usually F keys after F12 are free and not tied to system functions. Apple's currently produced (and previous) full-size / extended desktop keyboards have F13 through F19 keys available and not pre-defined by any system functions.

If needed, a user can always disable the built-in volume/brightness controls via the System Preferences > Keyboard preference pane. Having to do this is not ideal, but if it is needed to get this one-button screen capture functionality to work that may be a compromise.

I would also appreciate your seeing what can be done. I still reserve F5 for Snapz as it can still do things that Snagit cannot but otherwise F6 is still free. Plus, I have no problems overriding some of Apple's defaults that I never use.
